Qualified crews complete work while a FORTIFIED Evaluator documents compliance.
- 4. Designation
IBHS reviews the submission and issues your FORTIFIED Gold certificate.
What’s included at the Gold level
Roof (Foundation of the system)
- Minimum deck thickness and upgraded nailing
- Sealed Roof Deck (tape+underlayment / two-ply felt / self-adhered membrane)
- New drip edge at eaves & rakes; correct layering and fastening
- Wind-rated roof covering installed per high-wind specs
Silver (Openings protected)
- Impact-rated windows/doors or approved shutters
- Wind/impact-rated garage door or reinforcement
- Soffits and gable-end improvements where applicable
Gold (Continuous Load Path)
- Roof-to-wall clips/ties
- Wall-to-floor straps/hold-downs
- Floor-to-foundation anchors
- Engineer-designed or prescriptive connections, verified on-site
